There are two weeks of real football left on the 2011/2012 NFL season. Today, we find out who will play for the Lombardi Trophy in Indianapolis in two weeks.
Three of the four of us are taking both home teams today. All four of us are taking the 49ers. Will the Giants pull off another big upset? Will we see a XLII rematch, or the Harbaughcalypse Part II? Whatever happens, expect a whole lot of great football today.
Here are our picks:
| GAME | SPREAD | TIM (181-81) | SAM (180-82) | VON (179-83) | ANDREW (168-95) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ravens at Patriots | Patriots by 7 | Patriots | Patriots | Patriots | Ravens |
| Giants at 49ers | 49ers by 2.5 | 49ers | 49ers | 49ers | 49ers |
We’re just two games away from figuring out what two teams will go toe to toe in Super Bowl XLVI. It’s come down to the Ravens, Patriots, 49ers and Giants. The AFC Championship match is one that many people would have predicted earlier this season. The NFC Championship? Not so much.
I think it’s safe to say we can expect a pair of outstanding games. Here are some of the in-game storylines that could play out: Read the rest of this page »
I’ve always said that the Divisional Playoffs are the best weekend of football for the entire year. And, unless you take into account that I’m a diehard Packer fan, it certainly was a marvelous weekend of football. We knew it was going to be great when it kicked off with one of the best games of football I’ve ever witnessed: Saints vs. 49ers.
49ers 36, Saints 32 – Has there ever been a game with more lead changes in the final four or five minutes than this one had? It was crazy, it was emotional. Heck, this screenshot tells you all you need to know about Saturday’s epic thriller:

We won’t have our full recap of this weekend’s unbelievable action (49ers!) up until tomorrow night, but I doubt that we’ll have a play top this one for the week’s Most Bizarre Play.
On third down, the Patriots decide to perform a surprise punt, with Tom Brady himself doing the honors, and a fight breaks out afterwards. Who knew that a Tom Brady punt would be the thing to finally push the Broncos over the edge?
Eight teams remaining. Four games this weekend. Prepare yourself for the best weekend of football all season long, the NFL Divisional Playoffs.
All four games should be pretty entertaining for various reasons, but let’s give some love to Texans/Ravens, which has basically been ignored all week by the national media.
Here are our picks:
| GAME | SPREAD | TIM (179-79) | SAM (177-81) | VON (176-82) | ANDREW (166-93) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Broncos at Patriots | Patriots by 13.5 | Patriots | Patriots | Patriots | Broncos |

Eight teams remain in the NFL’s playoff tournament, with the first and second seeds of each conference now being added to the mix. In a rarity for the NFL, not a single wild card team is remaining in contention for the Super Bowl title, after the Bengals, Steelers, Falcons and Lions all lost last week.
Here is a close look at a few in-game storylines you can watch for this weekend in each one of the four matchups. In my opinion, the Divisional Playoff weekend is the best weekend of football all year long, and this year appears to be no exception. Read the rest of this page »
A playoff loss is always a painful experience, but Atlanta Falcons fans have to be smarting the most after watching their team finish on the wrong end of a 24-2 beatdown against the Giants Sunday. It was Atlanta’s fourth consecutive playoff loss in a streak that goes back to the Michael Vick era in 2004. The most recent three losses came with Matt Ryan at quarterback.
If he isn’t already, Ryan will soon beĀ labeledĀ as a good quarterback who just can’t win playoff game. While Falcons apologists would likely point to Ryan’s stellar regular season numbers and winning percentage , his postseason stats are, indeed, troubling. Though Ryan doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, he’s been criticized for being too careful in the past, and his postseason numbers certainly reflect that. Despite a very high 63.6 completion percentage, Ryan has averaged a paltry 4.2 yards per attempt in the postseason (his regular season average is 7 yards per attempt). The fact that he only has three postseason touchdown passes only furthers the argument. Read the rest of this page »
We saw a lot of crazy action this weekend, but nothing more unbelievable than the thrilling conclusion to what was perhaps the game of the year, the upstart Denver Broncos battling the veteran Pittsburgh Steelers. While every game this week deserves a second look, we’re going to begin right there. Read the rest of this page »
